If you are a big sushi fan and are visiting Tokyo right now (or in the future), just remember this name – Midori Zushi (美登利寿司). Don’t worry about their much longer, official name, i.e. Umegaoka Zushi no Midori Souhonten, as very few people actually call them as such.

Having spent most of our lives in Europe, Australia and South East Asia, Team Takaski members know for fact that good sushi shops are hard to find outside Japan. You also have to pay fortune for edible but mediocre sushi.

Midori Zushi is the perfect place for you if you want to try quality sushi at extremely reasonable price ranges.

Their lunch set menu starts from 787 yen (AUS$8.20, £4, THB214,€5.60, etc) to 2,100yen (AUS$22, £11, THB572,€15, etc), and you’ll be able to have quality sushi dinner anywhere from 1,000 yen to 5,000 yen (could be more, of course, depending on your order).

And you get to have your lunch at a counter facing a designated sushi chef (so counter seats are much more fun), who makes your sushi pieces to suit your speed.

Midori Zushi runs seven standard restaurants (Shibuya, Ginza, Akasaka, Tamagawa, Kichijoji, and two in Umegaoka), one sushi-train type restaurant (Shimotakaido) and one stand-up restaurant (Ikebukuro). While offering some same menu, each restaurant has slightly different menu, pricing and promotions.

Midori Zushi in Ginza, for example, offers a 11-piece sushi plate or chirashi zushi with salad and miso soup for 787 yen (cheapest deal among all the shops). Standard chirashi zushi (with salad and miso soup) is 1,000 yen and the special chirashi 1,500 yen at all branches.

All you can eat deal at Midori Zushi in Umegaoka

All you can eat deal

Midori Zushi is most famous for their generous all you can eat sushi deal, which is 3,600 yen for men, 3,000 yen for women and 1,500 yen for primary school age children. Remember that only Umegaoka Headquarter runs this deal, only on Mondays from 11:00 to 21:00, and each party has to observe a 90 minute limit.

It’s definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in Tokyo around these dates. BUT be warned – there will be hundreds of Midori Zushi lovers waiting to get in.

It’s probably best to go there 10 to 20 minutes before the opening time, if you don’t want to wait for two or three hours. No, they don’t take table bookings on these dates.

Check their website for more information. And remember, don’t leave Tokyo without visiting Midori Sushi.
