Kagurazaka is one of the trendiest shopping and restaurant districts in Tokyo. Takaski Kagurazaka Tour Special has so far covered: 1) Awesome lunch and 2) Cool temple and shrine. In this post we’ll introduce you to one of the best souvenirs you can get from Kagurazaka, i.e. Kagurazaka Okoshi!
We weren’t a big fan of okoshi, puffed rice Japanese snack, before. But we fell in love with it when a friend of ours recently gave us Kagurazaka Okoshi.
What’s great about it? Well, before we start telling you about the brand, here is some basic information about okoshi.
Okoshi is a popular Japanese snack, made by roasting steamed rice, mixing them with other ingredients such as peanuts and sesame seeds, and forming and coating them with sugar and starch syrup. It’s said that street vendors near the Kaminari Gate in Asakusa in the mid Edo period.
Today Kagurazaka okoshi has gained prominence as popular Kagurazaka souvenirs. First of all, they offer 33 different kinds of okoshi ranging from traditional to contemporary. The more contemporary ones include curry, mayonnaise, camembert, strawberry and chocolate, tomato basil, hot chilly and apple.
You don’t know which one to go for? Don’t worry. As you walk into this small but stylish shop on Kagurazaka dori, you’ll find samples of okoshi in small boxes and you will be warmly encouraged to try them out. They will also give you a small cup of tea while sampling – lovely service! Our favorite is matcha okoshi:-)
Another reason Kagurazaka Okoshi is great is the packaging design. All okoshi are individually packed and four pieces come in tastefully designed paper bags. If you want more, there are boxes for three, five and eight bags. Or you can ask for 12, 16, 36 and 69 pieces of different kinds of okoshi in boxes.
Kagurazaka Okoshi is super delicious and comes with really great packaging, making it a great souvenir for your friends back home. Find your own favorite at Kagurazaka Okoshi.
