Tokyo is sprinkled with thousands of great, awesome and legendary bakeries. It’s impossible to say who is best as there are just too many to choose from. It’s easier to talk about top three in one area or on one train line. Here we’ll introduce you to Keio Line’s top three bakeries!

They are: Breadal One (Chitosekarasuyama Station), Aosan (Sengawa Station) and Boulangerie Sunouchi (Kokuryo Station). These shops are worth a train ride. But check their business hours because they are not necessarily open everyday. In fact, Breadal One is open only four days a week and four hours each day!

Today we’ll introduce you to Breadal One in Kyuden, Setagaya-ward.

Get off at Chitosekarasuyama Station and walk along the train track for 7 to 8 minutes. You’ll most likely see a queue in front of a small shop.

Keio Line’s Top Three Bakeries -Breadal One is open from 12:00 to 14:00 and opens again between 15:00 and 17:00. It’s closed on Sunday, Monday and Thursday. You have to get this narrow window of opportunity to try one of the best bakeries on Keio Line!

If you can, try to get there by 11:50 and wait in the queue till the shop is open. The shop is very small and only a couple of people fit inside. Only one person looks after their customers and each customer buys at least 20 to 30 dollars (takes about 5-7 minutes each transaction). It’s not uncommon that you wait for an hour just to get bread!

Only a few of each kind of bread and pastry are baked. The shop closes when sold out.

But how ever long you might have to wait, it’s all worth it. Try as many different kinds of bread as you could possibly get. Apparently chestnut anpan (red bean filled buns) is legendary, and it’s almost impossible to buy a loaf as they bake only four a day…
